Marine Binding, made from solution-dyed acrylic fiber, is the ideal solution in the nautical world for achieving a perfect finish to marine canvas and sailcloth edgings.

Marine Binding is available in straight or diagonal cut, made from the same material as RECacril® Marine fabric, and therefore shares the same properties of resistance to fading and the elements.

Diagonally cut bindings are more flexible than straight cut ones, making them preferable for finishes on curved edges. Each side edge of the Marine Binding is doubled over and welded so that once sewn into position it provides a perfect finish.

Straight cut Marine Bindings are 7/8” wide and the diagonally cut ones are 1” wide.

RECsystem fabrics are the natural evolution of RECacril® fabrics, designed to achieve high impermeability with a hydrostatic head rating over 1000 mm. Besides the Infinity Process, these fabrics are coated on one side with high-tech resins, providing outstanding water resistance.

The special coating formulation and implementation process also provides RECsystem fabric with an exceptional resistance to the wrinkles that typically occur during the manufacturing process. Moreover, unlike other products on the market, the coated side of RECsystem fabrics does not shine or have a whitish appearance.

RECsystem canvases come in 120 cm widths with a wide range of solid colors and stripes, ideal to use in awnings requiring high water resistance.

RECsystem canvases follow rigorous quality controls throughout the manufacturing process, meeting all requirements for obtaining approval of the UNE-EN 13561:2004+A1:2009 (performance requirements including awning safety).

Antimicrobial Treatment

Decay-causing microorganisms such as molds, algae and bacteria can damage acrylic-coated canvases. To guard against these microorganisms and ensure the quality of our fabrics, RECsystem canvases are treated with antimicrobial products that offer optimal protection.

Antimicrobial products prevent microorganisms adhering to the fabric, however, these microorganisms may grow on dirt and other foreign substances left on the fabric.
To maximize the lifetime of RECsystem canvas, it is essential to carry out periodic cleaning as described in the Maintenance Section.

Maintenance for RECsystem Canvases

The high-tech Infinity Process finishing technique provides RECASENS canvases with long lasting protection against mold, as well as excellent water and oil repellency, making awnings that will protect you from both sun and water for many years.

However, the accumulation of dust, air pollution particles, foreign organic materials and general dirt can damage this protection, shortening the life of the canvas, so the fabric must be properly cleaned and maintained.

The most effective method for maintaining your canvas is to clean it once a month using a low pressure hose to prevent dirt accumulation. IMPORTANT: The fabric must be completely dry before closing or storing the awning.

The awning may be left open in the rain, as rain will also help prevent the accumulation of dirt. If for any reason you have to roll the awning while it is still wet, unroll it as soon as possible to let it dry. In times of continuous rain, we recommend keeping your awning rolled closed.

In addition to monthly rinsing, in most environments, the canvas will require a more thorough cleaning every 2-3 years. To clean your canvas:

  1. Brush off excess dust and dirt with a soft brush. NEVER brush with stiff brushes as that will damage the surface finish on the fibers.
  2. Spray the awning with clean water. Do not use a high pressure hose. Use only low pressure hoses to clean the fabric.
  3. Prepare a solution of solvent-free soap in warm water (no more than 40ºC), and apply it to the awning to dissolve any dirt or debris accumulated on the surface of the fibers.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with water to remove all traces of soap.
  5. Let the awning air dry, protected from the wind, until it is completely dry.

RECsystem fabrics are protected against the growth of fungi, however, fungi can grow on embedded dirt. A more intensive cleaning will remove these stains:

  1. Brush off excess dust and dirt with a soft brush. NEVER brush with stiff brushes as that will damage the surface finish on the fibers.
  2. Prepare a solution of 10% household bleach, 20% solvent-free neutral detergent and 70% water.
  3. Apply the solution to the fabric, and leave it on for 15-20 minutes maximum.
  4. Rinse with clean water several times, as residual bleach could damage the fabric.
  5. Let the awning air dry, protected from the wind, until it is completely dry.
  6. Repeat the process if necessary.

Properly dispose of chemicals and dirty water to protect the environment. Bleach and other chemicals can damage or destroy surrounding plants, animals and other living matter.

Consumer information

Some imperfections in material may occur due to handling during preparation or installation of the awning.

Whitish marbled streaks may form on the surface of the fabric during folding, handling and fabrication. This effect, called “crazing,” happens when fabric is folded, and creates micro fractures to the finish, causing light to refract off the fabric differently. This effect tends to appear more often in lighter colored fabrics. Sometimes, small folds may appear along the seams when rolling a canvas due to the increased thickness of the fabric at the seam.

These small irregularities are inherent in the nature of acrylic fiber and do not affect the fabric properties. As such, they are not the responsibility of the installer or manufacturer.

Wide Variety of Colors

RECacril® canvases are high-performance fabrics made from fade resistant solution-dyed acrylic fibers, specially designed for awning and sun protection products.

All spinning and weaving processes are optimized to give the canvas a high tensile and tear strength, and to produce an excellent surface finish for applying the Infinity Process high-tech coating.

The Infinity Process is a proprietary finishing technique that offers exceptional repellency to water and dirt, superior dimensional stability, and creates a durable fabric that keeps its aesthetic allure over the life of the product.

RECacril canvases are very easy to handle because the fabric has a consistent firm hand and excellent flat lay that makes it easy to cut, sew, and fabricate. The tight weave structure and smooth surface of RECacril canvases make printing easier. These elements provide better adhesion of the vinyl when heat transfer equipment is used. If screen printing is used, the closed structure of the yarns allows less ink to pass through the fabric, resulting in sharper, better-defined prints.

RECacril canvases follow rigorous quality control standards throughout the manufacturing process, meeting all requirements for obtaining approval of the UNE-EN 13561:2004+A1:2009 performance requirements for awning safety.

Applications

Properties

Advantages of Solution-dyed Acrylic Yarns

Generally, synthetic yarns are colorless when manufactured. There are two ways to color the fibers:

Conventional Dye. Immerse the fiber (yarn or fabric) in a solution of dye and other auxiliary products. As the colorant is applied after the fiber produced, it is distributed evenly on the surface, but without penetrating to the core of the fiber.

Solution dyedThe other way to dye fibers is to add the dye to the liquid fiber solution before extrusion. Dye is mixed into the solution thoroughly, bringing the color all the way through the fiber, obtaining vibrant fabrics with great wear resistance, excellent hue, and exceptional resistance to weathering, mold and mildew.

Infinity process

As a result of ongoing research and development, RECASENS develops and applies the Infinity Process to all RECacril, RECacril Marine, RECsystem and RECwater canvases.
The Infinity Process is a high-tech treatment designed to ensure lasting quality in all of the fabric lines. In this proprietary process, nanoparticles completely cover the surface of the fabric fibers, forming a permanent lining. After treatment, the surface and inside of the fabric are permanently protected from dirt build-up and weather damage.

The low reactivity and high stability of the Infinity Process gives our awnings durable and long lasting protection especially against mold, as well as providing excellent water and oil repellency.

Sun protection

RECacril canvases offer effective sunscreen protection as they filter high percentages of ultraviolet radiation. The level of protection varies according to fabric type and depending on the weight, thickness and color. Canvases with a higher weight protect better, and darker canvases offer better UV protection than clear ones.

RECASENS acrylic canvases offer high levels of UV protection, Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) of up to +80 according to international standard UV Standard 801.

Rain resistance

The Infinity Process gives RECacril canvases good water and oil repellency, able to withstand a short, light rain. The RECacril canvases are designed primarily for sun protection, but if an awning is installed with a minimum slope of 14° and properly maintained, RECacril canvases also offer good protection against short, light rains.

If a canvas has to withstand frequent and intense rains, we recommend using waterproof products such as RECsystem and RECwater.

RECacril Warranty

For 10 years after installation, RECASENS warranty covers their fabrics against decomposition, significant loss of strength, and fading only, for regularly maintained fabrics under normal use and environmental conditions.

RECASENS will either, at its discretion, replace free of charge or reimburse the invoice value of the section of fabric recognized as faulty, excluding any costs or any other compensation for any reason whatsoever.

The warranty does not protect against any damage due to abuse, neglect, vandalism, burns of any kind, fires and natural disasters.

Consequently, the warranty excludes the following damages:

Wide Variety of Colors

The RECwater® canvases are made of solution-dyed acrylic fibers with PVC coating on one side, which makes it absolutely waterproof. The PVC coating is colored to match the color of the acrylic, making it possible to combine the elegance of the acrylic fabric with PVC’s waterproof performance.

The PVC coating is formulated to achieve perfect adhesion with the acrylic fabric. Unlike other products on the market, RECwater does not crack or roll and has excellent dimensional stability.

The PVC-free face is treated to achieve good water and oil repellency, while the coated side is engraved with a design that gives the PVC a fabric appearance.

Being a heavier product and more resistant than RECacril®, makes RECwater® particularly suitable for boats that frequent areas with extreme weather conditions.

It is also suitable for awnings in rainy climates. If being used in an awning, the weight of the article should be taken into consideration when choosing hardware.

The RECwater canvases follow a rigorous quality control throughout the manufacturing process, meeting all requirements for obtaining approval of the UNE-EN 13561:2004+A1:2009 (performance requirements including awnings security).

Antimicrobial Treatment

Decay-causing microorganisms, such as molds, algae and bacteria can damage acrylic coated canvases. To guard against these microorganisms and ensure the quality of our fabrics, RECwater canvases are treated with antimicrobial products that offer optimal protection.

Antimicrobial products prevent microorganisms adhering to the fabric, however, these microorganisms may grow on dirt and other foreign substances if left on the fabric.
To maximize the lifetime of the RECwater canvas, it is essential to carry out periodic cleaning as described in the Maintenance Section.

Maintenance for RECwater Canvases

The high-tech Infinity Process finishing technique provides RECASENS canvases with long lasting protection against mold, as well as excellent water and oil repellency, making tops and covers that will protect you from both sun and water for many years.

IMPORTANT: The fabric must be completely dry before closing or storing it.

The fabric may be left open in the rain, as rain will also help prevent the accumulation of dirt. If for any reason you have to store the canvas while it is still wet, open it as soon as possible to let it dry.

  2. Spray the fabric with clean water. Do not use a high pressure hose. Use only low pressure hoses to clean the fabric.
  3. Prepare a solution of solvent-free soap in warm water (no more than 40ºC), and apply it to dissolve any dirt or debris accumulated on the surface of the fibers.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with water to remove all traces of soap.
  5. Let the canvas air dry fully tensioned, protected from the wind, until completely dry.

RECwater tarps are protected against the growth of fungi, however, fungi can grow on embedded dirt. A more intensive cleaning will remove these types of stains:

  5. Let the fabric air dry fully tensioned, protected from the wind, until completely dry.
  6. Repeat the process if necessary.

Properly dispose of chemicals and dirty water to protect the environment. Bleach and other chemicals can damage or destroy surrounding plants, animals and other living matter.

Consumer Information

Some imperfections in material may occur due to handling during preparation or installation of the canvas. These small irregularities, such as veining, small folds or whitish streaks are inherent in the nature of acrylic fiber and do not affect the fabric properties. Such defects are inherent in the fabric, and are not the responsibility of the installer or manufacturer.

Whitish marbled streaks may form on the surface of the fabric during the folding, handling and fabrication. This effect, called “crazing,” is caused when folding the fabric causes microfractures to the finish, which causes light to refract off the fabric differently. This effect tends to appear more often in lighter colored fabrics.

Small folds can appear along the seams by rolling the canvas due to increased thickness of the seam compared to the rest of the canvas cover.

RECscreen® yarns composition

RECscreen® fabrics are made of PVC-coated high-tenacity polyester yarns.

RECscreen® yarns are manufactured in our facilities located in Sant Jordi de Cercs (Barcelona) and woven in our factory in La Pobla de Montornés (Tarragona), allowing us control of the manufacturing and quality assurance processes.

At RECASENS we use two types of yarn, one thick and one thin, which, when combined, achieve different Openness Factors and textures. The different combinations and weaves make RECscreen® fabrics highly versatile, ideal for both indoor and outdoor use in many different types of curtains, awnings, and roller blinds.

Advantages of RECscreen® yarns

All RECscreen® fabrics are made of high-tenacity polyester yarns which offer significant advantages over the common fiberglass yarn:

  • Polyester yarn is more flexible than fiberglass yarn. Polyester screen yarns have a higher resistance to bending and torsion than fiberglass screen yarns, so polyester screen fabric will not break due to fatigue.
  • High-tenacity polyester yarn ensures a perfect cohesion of the PVC finish. Unlike fiberglass and PVC, PVC and polyester share similar elastic behavior versus temperature properties, and create clean core cuts that do not look frayed or fringed.

Advantages RECscreen® fabrics

  • High mechanical strength, both tensile and tear.
  • Excellent weather resistance. Fabric does not degrade and holds color perfectly.
The yarn used in the manufacture of RECscreen® fabrics is cylindrical, achieving an excellent rolled performance, preventing lateral displacement of the fabric.
  • Completely odorless.
  • Easy handling. Tolerates bending and weaving, allowing shaping of the fabric without leaving marks.
  • High memory. The resilience of RECscreen® always offers an unbeatable appearance.
  • Excellent shear behavior. The RECscreen® structure does not fray. It can be cut with any cutting machine – “crush-cutting”, ultrasound or laser cutting –  and the resulting cut will be clean and ready to use, not requiring reinforcements, hems, or the application of any lacquer.
  • Easy welding. Perfect adherence is achieved with all kinds of welding machines. Suitable for joints with sewing machine.
  • Very good dimensional stability.
  • Fireproof. Certified M-1 and CLASS-1 (UNE-EN 13773:2003).
  • Free of lead. Contains no substances harmful to the human body.
  • Anti-bacterial and mold resistant due to the special formulation of the PVC coating.
  • Different Openness Factors for optimum regulation of the amount of light entering interiors. Lower Openness Factor will yield lower incoming light intensity.
  • Wide range of colors. In addition to its aesthetic function, color plays a technical function because each color absorbs, transmits or reflects light differently, allowing you to adjust the energy balance of the room.
  • Solar Screen. REscreen® offers high protection from harmful UV rays, depending on the fabric’s Openness Factor – a lower Openness Factor will give better light filtration.
  • Visual comfort. The Openness Factor and the RECscreen® color chosen can help control the amount of glare during direct sunlight, achieving a beneficial effect on visual comfort and avoiding eye strain.
  • Energy savings in buildings. The fabric’s color, thickness and openness influence the absorption and loss of light and heat, allowing occupants to regulate lighting and temperature, crucial factors for reducing energy consumption driven by lighting, air conditioning and heating.
  • Ventilation. The RECscreen® woven fabric allows air permeability, preventing hot air from building up between the glass and the shade or under the awning.
  • Extra Wide. Three-meter width permits better use of RECscreen® fabrics with fewer cuts, welds and significant savings in labor.

Maintenance of RECscreen® fabrics

RECscreen® fabrics are easy to maintain. The yarn surface is plastic and has no pores, making it difficult for dirt to stick, and easy to clean.

To clean, wash the screen with a soapy water and a sponge, rinse with clean water, and leave the fabric open to dry.

If the fabric has a lot of dust, remove it first with a vacuum cleaner (it is also possible to blow on the fabric surface with compressed air, controlling for distance to avoid fabric damage). Once the dust is removed, proceed to clean with a sponge in soapy water and then rinse with clean water. Let it dry completely before closing.

Never rub the fabric with solvents or abrasives (metal brushes, powdered detergents, etc.) as these products can damage the yarn surface causing small cracks that allow dirt to accumulate in them.

When cleaning window glass, we recommend removing or completely rolling up the RECscreen® fabric to prevent chemicals splashing on the screen fibers.
